More Than a Brand, A Bond That Built It
This entire journey started with a friendship that’s lasted a lifetime.
Kiri (McLeod) Vanderwel and I have known each other since the very beginning — literally. Her mom was my mom’s supervising teacher, and I was born just three months after her. From that point on, we were inseparable. Every weekend, every summer, every memory from childhood — we were side by side.
So when I decided to leave the finance office and build something bigger — something that could truly change the game — I called the one person I’ve trusted with everything since day one. I asked if she knew someone who could help me build a landing page. Without hesitation, she said, “I’ll do it. I want to be part of this.”
We poured ourselves into it — days of talking, planning, dreaming. She took my ideas, my vision, and brought it to life in ways I never could have imagined. Every page, every detail, every feeling you get when you visit this site — that’s her magic.
Kiri has always had a gift for the little things people overlook — the details that quietly make everything feel seamless, intentional, and beautiful. It’s no surprise — she was an incredible wedding planner for years, a marketer by profession, and now a powerhouse web designer and brand builder. Her eye for design and her heart for storytelling have shaped everything we’ve built.
This isn’t just a business. It’s something created from decades of trust, love, and shared purpose. Kiri is the heart behind the scenes. And I’m beyond grateful to be walking this path with her — just like we always have.

In Loving Memory of Carrie Exley
If it weren't for my dear friend Carrie Exley, I would have never stepped foot into a finance office — and The Box Automotive Finance Academy wouldn't exist.
Carrie and I met through a network marketing company and became instant friends. We navigated the highs and lows of that business together until it eventually shut down, leaving us both unsure of what was next. Before network marketing, Carrie had worked as an insurance agent with ICBC, and through that role, she built strong connections in the auto industry.
When things fell apart, she went to one of her former contacts at a dealership and asked for a shot in finance. He gave her a chance. And not long after, she went to bat for me — insisting he meet me, telling him I had what it took. Thanks to her, I landed an interview, got the job, and stayed in that finance office for 11 years.
Carrie didn't just open a door — she changed the course of my life. She believed in me before I ever believed in myself. We were business partners, best friends, and she always dreamed of building something with me.
She passed away far too soon, but her legacy lives on in this company.
The Box Academy is built in her memory, and I carry her with me in every step of this journey.
